Sir Douglas Mawson
Sir Douglas Mawson OBE FRS FAA (5 May 1882 – 14 October 1958) was an Australian geologist, Antarctic explorer, and academic. We honour the legacy of Sir Douglas Mawson, a leader in increasing the world’s understanding of the Antarctic and its fundamental importance to the health and survival of our planet. We consciously chose his name and recognise his legacy through our move to carbon emission neutrality, protecting native habitats and furthering education on this extraordinarily important topic for the human race.
