100% Net Carbon-Neutral
Mawson aspires to be the leading global digital infrastructure provider and we are committed to achieving this aspiration in an environmentally sustainable way. Our goal is to be Net Zero by 2030, and to this end we have already offset 100% of our carbon emissions in 2020. In 2021 Mawson will plant over 25,000 trees, in addition to this we have supported numerous renewable energy and sustainability projects in the USA, India, Turkey and Australia. Our operations currently use over 75% non-carbon emitting energy (nuclear, hydro, wind) and our goal is to improve this mix over time as we expand our business globally.

With our partners One Tree Planted, Carbon Positive Australia, Carbon Neutral and Reforest Now, we plant trees in the USA and Australia, through a network of organisations who are knowledgeable about local ecology. We only plant local tree species, grown in nearby nurseries, and planted when conditions are optimal for tree survival.

Why plant trees?
Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. They also provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines.

Climate change – an accelerating global problem
The United Nations recognises climate change as “the most systemic threat to humankind”. Despite this, carbon dioxide emissions related to energy continue to rise – reaching 33.1 billion tonnes in 2018, a record high, and have increased by more than 40% since 2000.
Nuclear energy’s role in fighting climate change
To combat climate change, the world must rapidly reduce its dependency on fossil fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Nuclear energy is low-carbon and can be deployed on a large scale in the time frame required, supplying the world with clean and affordable electricity.
Nuclear is low-carbon
Nuclear power plants produce no greenhouse gas emissions during operation, and over the course of its life-cycle, nuclear produces about the same amount of carbon dioxide-equivalent emissions per unit of electricity as wind, and one-third of the emissions per unit of electricity when compared with solar.
